Funding Watch: Five Opportunities Ogun State Founders Can Access Right Now

Finding funding as a Nigerian founder is less about whether opportunities exist and more about knowing where to look before the window closes. Several programmes are either currently open or actively accepting applications in 2026 that Ogun State founders can access without needing to be based in Lagos or connected to a specific network.

Here is what is verified and available right now.

The SMEDAN Cluster Development Support Programme is one of the most relevant open opportunities at this moment. A Federal Government initiative approved by President Bola Tinubu, the programme is designed to formalize 250,000 MSMEs across Nigeria by providing targeted support to businesses operating within recognized geographic clusters and industrial hubs. Eligible businesses receive access to finance, infrastructure, technology support, and business development resources. Applications are open through the official SMEDAN portal at smedan.gov.ng.

For founders at the earliest stage, the SMEDAN Conditional Grant Scheme offers up to N50,000 in non-repayable cash for nano and micro businesses with minimal paperwork requirements. It is one of the most accessible government grants currently available to small business owners across Nigeria, including those in Ogun State.

NITDA’s Digital Export Acceleration Programme, known as DEAP, is open to high-potential Nigerian startups and SMEs across tech, agribusiness, fintech, healthtech, fashion, creative industries, and logistics. The programme is designed for businesses looking to expand regionally and internationally, offering export acceleration support, market access advisory, and strategic growth resources. Applications are open through NITDA’s official channels.

The Bank of Industry YES Programme remains one of the most established funding pathways for Nigerian youth entrepreneurs aged 18 to 35. The programme provides low-interest loans of up to N10 million alongside business training and mentorship. Applications are processed through boi.ng and require opening a BOI account before submission.

The Tony Elumelu Foundation Entrepreneurship Programme, which offers $5,000 in non-refundable seed capital alongside 12 weeks of business training and mentorship, closed its 2026 application window on March 1, 2026. However, the 2027 cycle is expected to open in early January 2027 through TEFConnect at tefconnect.com. Founders who missed the 2026 window should use the time between now and then to complete CAC registration, strengthen their business documentation, and refine their application.

The common thread across all of these programmes is preparation. Most Ogun State founders who miss funding windows do not miss them because they were unqualified. They miss them because the deadline passed before they found out, or because their documentation was not ready when the window opened. Monitoring official channels, registering your business with the CAC, and keeping a one-page business summary current are the three steps that separate founders who access these opportunities from those who do not.
